"It is the child and no one else that, guided by the inner directives that nature gave him, by himself steers the boat of his life, turning it toward a destination that expresses the maximum possible achievement." - Maria Montessori
In the early days of Maria Montessori's career, teachers who completed their Montessori training sometimes received a pin or brooch which symbolized the central tenet of the method, "help me to do it myself". The design of this pin featured the Child on the Sea of Life design, representing the child navigating the waters of daily life with strength, confidence and independence.
Reproduced in charming detail, the distinctive Child on the Sea of Life design is presented in pewter with a blue enamel background. The pin has a secure closure to keep it in place, and it measures 21 mm across (just over 3/4"). Makes a great graduation gift for students or token of appreciation for staff and teachers.
